Unlucky Smokey hopes for stroke of luck on Friday 13th

A 13-year-old dog is hoping it will be fourth time lucky despite today being one of the unluckiest days of the year, after finding himself homeless once more through no fault of his own.

Terrier Smokey originally arrived at Dogs Trust Merseyside in July last year after his owners emigrated and had to make the heart breaking decision to leave him behind. Since then the team have waved him off to his new home on two separate occasions but sadly have seen him return due to a change in family circumstances.

Georgina Lowery, Manager at the Huyton rehoming centre, says:

“Smokey is absolutely lovely but has been one of the unluckiest dogs in many ways that we have ever known. In all his homes he has been absolutely adored as he’s just such a gorgeous dog to have around.

“The situation he has found himself in is so sad for everyone concerned and we’re really hoping that as an older gentleman he’ll find his final forever home this time.”

Although he’s an Old Age Pooch (OAP), Smokey is still full of life and loves a good walk with lots of new places to explore. He enjoys the company of his canine companions when he’s out and about but would like to be the only dog in the home. He also doesn’t like to be left home alone so would love his new forever family to be around most of the time – and he’ll be more than happy to accompany them on days out!

Georgina adds:

“He really is a sweetie so despite the superstition that Friday 13th brings bad luck, we’re really hoping potential new owners will put any superstitions to one side and consider rehoming this beautiful boy.

“Not only will you be offering a four-legged friend a happy home, but you will be gaining a new family member and there’s definitely nothing unlucky in that!”

Smokey can live with children aged over 14. If you think you could be the new owner Smokey is longing for please contact Dogs Trust Merseyside on 0300 303 0292 or visit the centre at Whiston Lane, Huyton, L36 6HP.
