Homeless hounds make sure Heaton Park is up to scratch for their first fun day

Dogs and dog lovers are in for a real treat as Dogs Trust Manchester will be holding its first ever fun day at Heaton Park in a month’s time.

There will be fun for all with dog show competitions for pooches of all shapes, sizes and talents including Friendliest Pup, Waggiest Tail, The Most Golden Oldie, Best Young Handler and Best Rescue Dog.

There will also be Have-A-Go Agility, a Doggy Dash, a sponsored Waggy Walk, free microchipping, children’s games and craft activities, a raffle and tombola. The event will see over 30 stalls selling everything from homemade gifts to perfect presents for pets.

Lucy Marsh, Dogs Trust Manchester’s Supporter Relations Officer, said:

“The Fun Day promises to be a wonderful day out. Heaton Park is a fantastic place for dog lovers so we are hoping thousands will come and help us raise much needed funds to help us look after the homeless dogs in our care. We don’t get any government funding so every penny we raise is vital.”

As well as lots of fun and games for everyone, there will be a Reunion Tent for former residents of Dogs Trust Manchester and a sponsored 3k and 5k Waggy Walk.

Lucy adds: “It will be fantastic to see some of the 700 plus dogs we have rehomed since opening last October and we hope some will take part in the sponsored walks! The walks have been organised by Vets4Pets in Denton and we’re hoping hundreds of dog lovers take the opportunity to get some exercise and raise money too!”

The Fun Day will take place on Sunday 26 July, 11am-4pm, and entry is £3. Children aged 12 and under go free as do entrants to the sponsored dog walk. To register for the sponsored walk in advance please call Lucy on 0161 337 3605, or you can enter on the day. £5 for one dog, £8 for two and £10 for three.
