Corrie star swaps cobbles for Collies
Coronation Street actress Lisa George left the cobbles behind this week to indulge her passion in life for man's best friend.
Lifelong dog-lover Lisa, who plays Beth Sutherland in the soap, took a trip to Dogs Trust Manchester to meet some of the homeless hounds waiting for their forever homes at the Denton-based Rehoming Centre.
"I have always had dogs in my life and absolutely adore them. I can't begin to imagine how sad it is for people when they have to give them up and it's tragic if a dog is simply abandoned. But it's fantastic to see the love and care they get at Dogs Trust Manchester. They are so relaxed and happy it's wonderful."
Lisa visited the Rehoming Centre with Corrie colleague Adam Blease who has worked as a background artist for almost ten years in the Street’s Underworld factory as ‘Dirk’, alongside knicker-stitcher Beth.
One of the dogs the two met was three-year-old Collie Cross, Mason, who had arrived just a few days earlier.
“He stole my heart immediately. He is beautiful and so gentle. He loved having cuddles and I was more than happy to oblige! It was very difficult to leave him behind but I know the team will find him the perfect home and whoever he is adopted by is very lucky.”
Dogs Trust Manchester has rehomed more than 2,000 dogs since opening in October 2014.
Dawn Bishop, Dogs Trust Manchester Rehoming Centre Manager, says:
“It was fantastic to show Lisa and Adam around. They are both huge dog-lovers and it was great for them to meet some of our gorgeous dogs who all enjoyed the special attention and the chance to have extra playtime!”
