Barking up the right tree

Whilst many of us are opening presents and getting the dinner ready on Christmas Day, a dog-lover from Denton will be doing her bit for homeless hounds at Dogs Trust Manchester.

Mo Bowes will be helping to make sure that all the dogs at the Parkway Rehoming Centre who are without a forever family this Christmas can still enjoy all the festive fun.

In the last twelve months Mo has volunteered for around 500 hours at the Denton centre, helping look after the hundreds of dogs that have found themselves homeless. On the big day itself it will be business as usual - almost - walking dogs whatever the weather and cleaning kennels, but then of course helping her four-legged friends open presents, all of which have been donated by generous dog-lovers.

Mo says:

"I absolutely love volunteering! What could be better for a dog lover than being able to spend time with dogs and do as much as possible to make them happy! I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be on Christmas Day! We all work so hard throughout the year to give the dogs the best possible time whilst they wait for their forever homes and we feel it's especially important to do that over Christmas.

"Whilst the dogs don't know it's Christmas and we can't offer them their own sofa or a roaring fire to relax in front of, we will be making sure they all feel special and don't miss out on any of the fun."

Dogs Trust Manchester has around 60 volunteers working alongside staff throughout the year and in 2016 they have given around 8,000 hours of their time.

Rehoming Centre Manager, Dawn Bishop, says:

"Our volunteers are amazing! People support us in so many ways and in the last few weeks we have been overwhelmed by the number of presents people have brought in for the dogs too. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone! We couldn't give the dogs everything they need without the help we get.

"Having seen all the presents that have been dropped off, the volunteers and staff can't wait to help our dogs open them. We can guarantee that they will all be thoroughly enjoyed on Christmas Day and beyond!"
