Hair-mazing dogs looking for furrytail ending

Dogs Trust Kenilworth has launched an appeal to find a home for two of the most hair-mazing doggy residents they have ever seen.

Four-year-old Chinese Cresteds, Rocky and Echo, both have hair-dos that would rival most rockstars, but staff say their bed-head locks are potentially putting new owners off adopting them.

They were bought to the rehoming centre in Kenilworth back in February when their owner was unable to care for them. The quirky looking pair have become firm favourites with staff, but staff say that their ‘bad hair days’ are putting off potential new owners who are opting for similar sized dogs with a slicker appearance The team are now hoping to find permanent, loving homes of their own with owners who will make them the ‘mane’ attraction in a new home

Dogs Trust Kenilworth Manager, Emma Healey, explains:

"Chinese Cresteds do have an unusual appearance, but we’ve never seen any with hair like these two! They are very attached to each other, so we are looking for a family to rehome them both together. Echo is the more confident one of the pair and Rocky looks to him for reassurance. Despite their crazy hair, we think they are adorable and really hope they find a loving family soon. They are looking for homes without other pets and could live with teenagers over the age of 14.”

Dogs Trust often see influxes of particular breeds coming into their care, sometimes due to irresponsible purchasing behaviours, lack of understanding of a breed’s needs, or simply a change in family circumstances. Whilst the number of Chinese Cresteds coming into Dogs Trust is still low compared to other breeds that have fallen victim to trends - such as Huskies and Staffordshire Bull Terriers - the charity has seen 37 come into their care in the last three years, compared to just one being handed in ten years ago.

Emma continues:

“We often see an abundance of specific breeds coming into Dogs Trust and its sad to think this may now have fallen on Chinese Cresteds. We have seen a few more Chinese Cresteds than usual coming into our care and have taken in three in the last few months alone at our Kenilworth centre. Rocky and Echo are wonderful dogs and we’re really hoping someone will come forward and adopt this adorable duo really soon.”
