From hefty hound to lean Labrador

This new year, there will no doubt be many people making resolutions to lose weight but a homeless hound at Dogs Trust Glasgow has already achieved his weight loss goal by shedding over 2 stone over the course of 2015.

Super slimmer Harvey weighed a whopping 7 stone when he arrived at the rehoming centre in December of 2014. He was partial to a few too many tasty treats and wasn’t the most active chap so he had slowly piled on the pounds in his previous home.

Staff quickly put him on a healthy eating plan and made sure he upped his fitness regime with regular walks every day and some off-lead outdoor playtime. With the help and encouragement of his canine carers, Harvey safely started losing his excess weight and has now slimmed down to a slender 4 stone 6Ib!

Whilst he may be a fitter, healthier hound, Harvey has just one goal this new year and that’s to finally find a loving, active home where he can live a healthy and happy life.

Sandra Lawton, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow comments,

“Harvey is an adorable boy who has come such a long way on his weight loss journey and we are so proud of his achievement! He has made so many improvements and whilst he is half the dog he once was, he more than makes up for it in personality! He is always raring to go on long country walks with his carers and enjoys snuggling up for cuddles after a busy day.”

“Harvey has trimmed down beautifully and whilst he won’t say no to a treat or two, he has a much more balanced diet and still gets to enjoy his favourite treats in moderation. This affectionate boy is looking for a home with active owners who can spend time getting to know him. He likes to play fetch especially with soft toys and enjoys using his nose in search games. Whilst he is happy to meet new doggy friends on his walks, he would prefer to be the only pet in the home.”
