Excellent year for “Home from Home” Foster Care Team

Home from Home Carers in front of Dogs Trust Car

For Dogs Trust Darlington “Home from Home” foster care team 2019 was an excellent year with 167 dogs placed into foster homes.

The ongoing rebuild of the rehoming centre has led to a temporary reduction in kennel space however, the demand for dogs needing to come into our care whilst they wait to find a new home has remained high.

To help cope with demand more foster carers were recruited during 2019 and towards the end of the year the team grew from one full time member of staff to two full time and one part time HFH coordinator.

A few statistics for you:

 2018     2019
Dogs placed into foster homes  144   167
Kennel space saved per day  10   17
Number of dogs adopted from foster homes    90   110

Dogs placed into foster care come in all shapes, sizes, ages and breeds including puppies, golden oldies and those that really need a little extra bit of T.L.C.

Our foster carers do an amazing job and often take dogs into their care at very short notice.  Without this network of carers, we would be unable to help as many dogs in need.

If you live within 45 minute’s drive of the Darlington rehoming centre, have your own transport and are home for the majority of the day, please visit the Dogs Trust website for more information on fostering or contact the team on [email protected]
