Dogs Trust Bridgend’s oldest resident looking for a home

Rehoming appeal for 13-year-old Annabella

Dogs Trust Bridgend is appealing for a home for its oldest resident who is the human equivalent of 91 years old.

Taking the accolade is Annabella, a 13-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who found herself under the care of Dogs Trust Bridgend after her owner sadly became ill and unable to care for her.

Annabella is well above the age of four – the average age of a Dogs Trust dog – and is well into her retirement years. But staff say she still has a lot of love to give in the form of sloppy, wet kisses and they are all hoping she finds a loving home where she can  put her paws up and relax in her twilight years.

Angela Wetherall, Rehoming Centre manager at Dogs Trust Bridgend, said:

"It's especially sad when older dogs come to us and have to leave everything they know behind through no fault of their own. Annabella is getting lots of TLC from her canine carers but we're really hoping somebody will open their home and heart to this mature lady really soon. There are so many advantages to owning an older dog and they make great companions.

"Annabella would make the perfect companion dog and she is looking for a quiet home to keep someone company who is around for most of the day. She doesn't need much exercise but is happy to go for a stroll or potter about in the garden. She loves a cuddle so would be at her happiest relaxing on the sofa with her new family."

The team say she would be best suited to an adult-only home but could live with older, sensible children over the age of 14 and would need to be the only dog in the home.

The rehoming centre is also keen to encourage people to consider the advantages of owning an older dog which include:

  1. They need less exercise but are still just as fun!
  2. They are used to living in a home so come house-trained and are not as destructive as a puppy.
  3. Their personality is already shaped so new owners can really understand and appreciate the dog they are welcoming into their family.
