Dogs Trust

Are you fur real?

Dogs Trust has launched an appeal to find a home for two of the most unusual four legged residents they have ever seen. Neil and Nigel – two adorable poodle cross pups were bought to the Rehoming Centre in Bridgend when their owner was unable to find homes for them – possibly because of their quirky looks as they have very little hair. The fun-loving pair have already become firm favourites with staff who, due to their simian appearance and mischievous nature, have nick named them “the chimps." The chimps are now hoping to find permanent loving homes of their own with owners who will weave these hairless hounds into their families.

The twelve week old pups, who have been in the care of Dogs Trust Bridgend for a month are happy and healthy and show no signs of further hair loss, or hair growth, so are now looking for loving homes of their own. Staff are continuing to investigate the causes behind their odd appearance, so are looking for local homes because although their condition causes them no discomfort, it remains possible they may need further treatment in the future. Potential owners will also need to be prepared for the eventuality that their fur may never grow back.

Dogs Trust Bridgend Assistant Manager Rebecca Baker explains:

"I’ve never seen anything quite like these little pups. We have never seen hairless pups like these before at the centre with no sign of any underlying cause or condition and we suspect they were born this way. Like most puppies they have boundless energy and require lots of attention and socialisation, so will need all of their basic puppy training and someone who is around for most of the day to help them settle in.”

Rebecca adds: “We think Neil and Nigel are adorable and hope they will not continue to be overlooked just because they look a little different. The pups certainly don’t let it bother them – they are sweet natured, cheeky little scamps who adore their carers and would make the perfect pets in the right homes for loving owners who find their quirky looks as appealing as we do – they deserve to be the ‘mane’ attraction in a happy home!”
