Golden girls need forever home | Bridgend news | Dogs Trust

Dogs Trust

Can you give these golden girls the forever home of their dreams?

The staff at Dogs Trust Bridgend are caring for four golden oldies with a combined age of 52 years old – the equivalent of 364 human years – after all of their owners sadly passed away.

Despite not looking for a home together, the four females Izzy, Queenie, Scooby and Trixie have been dubbed the Golden Girls because of their mature ages and are all seeking owners who have the space in their home and heart to take on an Old Age Pooch (OAP) and give them a loving forever home in their retirement years.

These loveable pooches are all looking for different homes, but the one thing they all have in common is that they’d all make fantastic pets in the right homes. They need families who are willing to devote time to helping them get settled and give them a second chance at happiness.

Angela Wetherall, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Bridgend, said:

“It’s always sad when older dogs come to us after their whole world has changed, but these four girls are slowly starting to come out of their shells.

“We are hoping to find four loving owners who can be the Sophia to our four golden girls. Anyone who loved the Golden Girls TV show will know that Sophia was the matriarch of the home and acted as a mother figure to the others.

“We’d like to hear from dog lovers who can give our girls all the time and patience they need as they settle into their new surroundings and give them a forever home in their twilight years.”

Dogs Trust also runs a free service called the Canine Care Card, which gives reassurance to dog owners that your dog will be cared for by the charity if you pass away before they do, and will go on to find loving homes that are right for them.

Angela adds: “Signing up for a Canine Care Card is free and easy to do and it gives dog owners peace of mind should the worst happen. These four girls all lost their beloved owners, and we know we can’t fill the space left by them, only a new caring family can do that. But we hope it won’t be long before new owners come forward and give them the love they deserve very soon.”

More info on the golden girls:

Izzy Age 14 Crossbreed Izzy is enjoying her home comforts in a foster home but is looking for a forever home of her own. She loves a potter around in the garden and then to curl up on her bed. She could live with a calm dog already in the home and children 11 years and over as long as they are aware that she can't play or run around too much. She is the sweetest girl and deserves lots of TLC. You will need to register at the centre first if you would to meet her.

Queenie Age 13 Collie Cross Queenie is a total sweetheart! When you meet her, you will fall in love with her. She still loves her walks and travels well in the car and likes to explore new places. She could live with a dog in her new home and children eight years and over if they are gentle and understanding. Ideally, she would like someone to keep her company during the day but could be left for a few hours.

Scooby Age 12 Cocker Spaniel Scooby likes to get out and about and really enjoys her walks. She needs a quiet home with someone who is around for most of the day. She can live with children eight years and over and she has lived with cats previously so could live with one again providing introductions go well.

Trixie Age 13 Yorkshire Terrier Trixie is a shy girl who does find meeting new people quite scary. She’s looking for an adult-only home with few visitors. She is happy to mix with calm dogs but likes her space so would prefer to be the only pet in the home. She’s a sweet older girl who will take time and patience but is well worth it.
