Dog School expansion ‘paws’ out all the stops for four-legged friends and families in Belfast
Dogs Trust’s Dog School in Northern Ireland is expanding, with a newly established team based in Belfast, making it even more accessible for dog owners in the region. The dog training team are hoping even more four-legged pupils and their owners will benefit from this fantastic opportunity, as they roll out classes at Duncairn Community Centre.
The Dogs Trust Dog School Belfast team are holding classes on Mondays and Wednesdays; hoping to prove you can teach young and old dogs new tricks.
Head Coach Sascha Cox says:
“Pet dogs don't need to be obedience champions, but we know most owners would love it if their dog could sit when asked, walk calmly on a loose lead, come back when called and settle down when they stop to chat to their neighbour or pop to a café. The team are really excited to get out into the community and help dog owners and their pets through our rewards-based training methods.
“We want to help owners reward their dogs for making the right choices during their training; that may be giving them a tasty treat, giving them lots of praise, or playing their favourite game. If a dog is rewarded for the desired behaviour, they are more likely to repeat it.”
Dog School is just as much about supporting the owner as it is about the training dog, which is why it is important for dog owners to understand the need to continue training at home to reinforce what their pet has learned in class; not just for the dog’s sake but also theirs too as it is beneficial for them to know the reasons why dogs behave in certain ways.
The classes will be held at 16:00, 18:00, 19:00 and 20:00 on Mondays and 18:00 and 19:00 on Wednesdays. To find out more you can go to www.dogstrustdogschool.org.uk or contact the team on 07990 379696 / 0289590 2935 or email [email protected]
