Fireworks

We want tighter restrictions on the sale and use of fireworks in the UK.

What’s the issue?

Dogs feel safest when they can predict and control their environment. So, hearing unexpected, unexplained noises like those from fireworks can be extremely stressful for them. Easy access to fireworks means dog owners are facing a constant waiting game.

Nearly half of all dogs suffer because of fireworks every year. Petlog, the UK’s largest microchipping database, revealed an increase in reports of missing dogs during the firework season.

What we're doing to improve firework safety

For years, we’ve been calling for tighter restrictions on the sale and use of fireworks in the UK.

We want fireworks limited to:

  • licensed, public occasions
  • certain times of the year
  • organised events only.

This would make them more predictable and allow owners to prepare for the impact on their dog.

We chair the Fireworks Impact Coalition, which brings together 18 charities representing a variety of animals and vulnerable people. Together, we join our voices in support of fireworks regulation reform.

How our supporters have helped

Nearly 20,000 of you wrote to your MPs, urging the Government to review fireworks legislation. This helped us meet nearly 100 MPs at our Firework Impact Coalition event in the House of Commons. There, we highlighted the harm fireworks can do and how they could be used more responsibly.
