Are you right for Milo?

Milo is a beautiful 11-month-old Jack Russell Terrier looking for a quiet, adult-only home where he can build his confidence and settle at his own pace. Milo will need to live as the only dog in the home. He would, however, benefit from having calm, confident and sociable doggy friends to meet on walks, helping him gradually develop his social skills. He could potentially live with a cat and has been comfortable around livestock. Milo can be nervous and worried when meeting new people, so he will need a quiet household with very few visitors. Any introductions will need to be carefully managed and allow Milo plenty of time to feel comfortable. He would suit someone who works from home, as he is not currently used to being left and this will need to be introduced very gradually. Milo is housetrained and travels well in the boot of the car. He is currently recovering from an operation, so his exercise will need to remain restricted initially and then gradually increased as he recovers and is able to enjoy longer walks again. Milo walks nicely on lead and will benefit from having access to quiet countryside walks, away from busy roads and built-up areas. His new home will need to be a calm environment where he can feel safe and have time to adjust to his new surroundings.

Is Milo right for you?

Milo is a lovely young boy who can be a little unsure when meeting new people. Rather than rushing him, he'll need people to give him the time and space to approach when he's ready, allowing him to make the choice to interact. Once he knows and trusts someone, Milo loves a cuddle and has lots of love to give. His new family will need to help him build his confidence through gentle encouragement and plenty of reassurance. Milo isn't looking for a busy social life and would prefer to enjoy the quieter things in life, particularly exploring the countryside with his people. Milo loves walks through fields and woodland and will enjoy having opportunities to sniff and explore at his own pace. As he continues to recover from his operation, his exercise will need to be built up carefully before he can enjoy longer adventures. He's a playful boy too and enjoys tuggy toys and chasing a ball. He's also very fond of cheese, which could come in handy when helping him learn new things! Milo already knows some useful cues, including sit, come and "up", which he uses when getting into the car. He can be worried by loud or unexpected sounds, such as fireworks, so his new family will need to be mindful of this and help him feel safe when things get a little noisy. Milo is looking for someone who can see the lovely boy underneath his initial worries and give him the time, patience and understanding he needs. With a quiet home, gentle introductions and someone willing to build his confidence at his own pace, Milo has lots of potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.

Everything you need to know about the Jack Russell Terrier

How our rehoming process works

  1. 1

Create an account and fill out our application form

In our form you can tell us all about your home, your lifestyle and the kind of dogs you’re interested in. You won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can add favourites to give us an idea of the dogs you like. We’ll use this information to find a great match for you.

  2. 2

    Choose a rehoming centre

We’ll also ask you to select a rehoming centre. The team at this centre will look after your application and assess you against all suitable dogs in their care. This doesn’t have to be your nearest centre, but you will need to travel there within a few days once we’ve found...

  3. 3

    We’ll review your application

We’ll review your application against the dogs in our care at your chosen centre. If we think we have the right dog for you, we’ll be in touch as soon as possible. If we don’t hear back from you, we will close your application for now, and you can reapply when you’re ready.

We’ll keep your application open for three months and keep looking for a match

If we’ve found a dog who seems right for you, we’ll invite you to come and meet them at the rehoming centre.

Some of the dogs in our care will need to meet potential owners several times to get to know one another. This lets us see you’re compatible and gives you the chance to build a bond before making a commitment to give them a new home. By taking some time at the beginning to make sure everyone’s comfortable, an adoption is more likely to be successful.

We may also arrange a home visit with you, to see how your house will be set up and check that the garden (if you have one) is secure. This may not be necessary, though, especially if you’ve adopted from us before. Where you already have dogs, we may accept a reference from your vet as an alternative.

  6. 6

If we haven’t found the right match, we’ll continue the search together

If we haven’t found the right dog for you within three months, we’ll let you know your application is closed. We’ll invite you to apply again so we have up-to-date information about you, and we’ll keep looking.

We’ll support you to embark on a new life with your dog

When we’ve matched you with a dog, we’ll help you welcome them to your home. After adoption we’ll keep in touch to see how you and the dog are doing. If you need any advice or support, we’re just a phone call away.
