Are you right for Delores?
Delores is a truly special young Rottweiler cross who has completely stolen the hearts of everyone at the centre. She is a sweet, playful and affectionate girl who is looking for a home with adopters who can help her continue building her confidence and learning how to manage all her excitement and zest for life.
Delores has very limited hearing, so she may not realise when someone is approaching or about to touch her. Her new family will need to make sure she can see them before handling her and use visual cues to communicate with her (training provided at the centre). This may also mean that new places can feel a little overwhelming at first, but with reassurance, treats and time to explore, she soon starts to relax.
She can become very excited when meeting people and may jump up or mouth gently during greetings. Calm introductions, structured play and ongoing positive training will help her learn more appropriate ways to say hello. Delores may be able to live with confident, dog-savvy teenagers as her playful and boisterous nature could be too much for younger children.
Delores would love a private, secure garden and a quieter household with limited visitors while she settles in (initially). We are looking to place her in a home with another confident and playful dog that could be her ears. Any time left alone will need to be introduced gradually, as she may initially bark or scratch at the door, although she has already shown that she can begin to settle with patient, gradual practice.
Is Delores right for you?
Delores is full of personality and has so much love to give. She adores being around people and will happily follow you from room to room before curling up beside you for a snuggle on the sofa. During her time in a foster home, she took her time exploring her new surroundings but quickly began to settle, seek out affection and invite her foster carer to play.
She absolutely loves toys and is very good at entertaining herself, although tug of war is one of her favourite games to share with people. Delores can get carried away when she is having fun, so she will benefit from structured play sessions and calm breaks to help her manage her excitement. She is also a big fan of food and treats, which will make positive training especially rewarding. She will sit beautifully for a treat and usually takes them very gently.
Delores is curious when out on walks and enjoys taking in everything around her. Because she cannot rely fully on her hearing, she may occasionally jump towards her handler for reassurance when something surprises her. She travels brilliantly and would love to have a home that would take her on adventures as Delores can be a social butterfly.
She has shown lovely, playful body language around other dogs and enjoyed walking alongside another dog at the centre. With the right match, she could enjoy having a confident friend to play with and join her on adventures, and be her ears for her.
Delores is looking for a patient and understanding family who can see just how wonderful she is beneath all that youthful enthusiasm. In return, they will gain an incredibly affectionate, fun-loving companion who will fill their home with playtime, sofa cuddles and plenty of character.

In our form you can tell us all about your home, your lifestyle and the kind of dogs you’re interested in. You won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can add favourites to give us an idea of the dogs you like. We’ll use this information to find a great match for you.

We’ll also ask you to select a rehoming centre. The team at this centre will look after your application and assess you against all suitable dogs in their care. This doesn’t have to be your nearest centre, but you will need to travel there within a few days once we’ve found...

We’ll review your application
We’ll review your application against the dogs in our care at your chosen centre. If we think we have the right dog for you, we’ll be in touch as soon as possible. If we don’t hear back from you, we will close your application for now, and you can reapply when you’re ready.

Some of the dogs in our care will need to meet potential owners several times to get to know one another. This lets us see you’re compatible and gives you the chance to build a bond before making a commitment to give them a new home. By taking some time at the beginning to make sure everyone’s comfortable, an adoption is more likely to be successful.
We may also arrange a home visit with you, to see how your house will be set up and check that the garden (if you have one) is secure. This may not be necessary, though, especially if you’ve adopted from us before. Where you already have dogs, we may accept a reference from your vet as an alternative.

If we haven’t found the right match, we’ll continue the search together
If we haven’t found the right dog for you within three months, we’ll let you know your application is closed. We’ll invite you to apply again so we have up-to-date information about you, and we’ll keep looking.

We’ll support you to embark on a new life with your dog
When we’ve matched you with a dog, we’ll help you welcome them to your home. After adoption we’ll keep in touch to see how you and the dog are doing. If you need any advice or support, we’re just a phone call away.
