Are you right for Luna?

Lovely Luna is a three-year-old Poodle cross who is looking for patient, understanding adult adopters who will give her a little time to get to know them – and will be rewarded with a wonderfully affectionate and fun companion. Luna is a superstar in the home. She is housetrained, settles beautifully and is happy to sleep downstairs if needed. She adores being around her people but can also be left comfortably for a few hours, although we would recommend gradually building this back up when she first moves into her new home. One of Luna's favourite things is other dogs! She is very dog-social and loves having canine friends to walk, play and socialise with when out and about. She would, however, prefer to be the only dog living in her new home so she can enjoy having her own space and her humans to herself. Luna has no history of living with cats, small furries or livestock. Luna can initially be worried by new people, particularly visitors coming into the home, so she isn't a dog who will immediately want to be everyone's best friend. The best way to Luna's heart is to give her some time and space and let the friendship develop at her pace. Joining her for a walk, getting out her favourite ball for a game of fetch and having some tasty treats ready are all great ways to start making friends. Once Luna knows and trusts you, a completely different side of her shines through – she is affectionate, playful and loves nothing more than snuggling up with you on the sofa.

Is Luna right for you?

A quieter home with plenty of routine and predictability would suit Luna best. Someone who works from home could be a great match for her, although this isn't essential as Luna is able to settle when left for a few hours. We can also provide her adopters with guidance and a training plan to help Luna feel more comfortable when visitors come to the home. Luna enjoys getting out for her adventures and is good on and off the lead. She can find busy traffic worrying, so she would much prefer a home where her walks can focus on quieter locations or where her adopters are happy to pop her in the car and head somewhere more peaceful. Luna travels well once she is in the car and would much rather explore a woodland trail, countryside walk or beach than navigate busy roads. She particularly loves the beach, enjoys playing in the water. Luna is bright, playful and loves learning, so continuing her training and teaching her some new tricks would be a brilliant way to have fun together while helping to build her confidence. She does have one slightly cheeky habit – Luna is partial to stealing the occasional sock! We have a simple management plan that works well for this and can show her new family how to deal with it calmly so that it doesn't turn into a game or become an issue. Luna will potentially need her adopters to visit her once or twice before adoption, giving everyone the opportunity to get to know each other without rushing her. If you're looking for a dog who is fantastic in the home, loves her doggy friends, enjoys beautiful walks and adventures, and becomes a wonderfully affectionate companion once she knows you, Luna could be the girl for you.

How our rehoming process works

  1. 1

Create an account and fill out our application form

In our form you can tell us all about your home, your lifestyle and the kind of dogs you’re interested in. You won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can add favourites to give us an idea of the dogs you like. We’ll use this information to find a great match for you.

  2. 2

    Choose a rehoming centre

We’ll also ask you to select a rehoming centre. The team at this centre will look after your application and assess you against all suitable dogs in their care. This doesn’t have to be your nearest centre, but you will need to travel there within a few days once we’ve found...

    We’ll review your application

We’ll review your application against the dogs in our care at your chosen centre. If we think we have the right dog for you, we’ll be in touch as soon as possible. If we don’t hear back from you, we will close your application for now, and you can reapply when you’re ready.

If we’ve found a dog who seems right for you, we’ll invite you to come and meet them at the rehoming centre.

Some of the dogs in our care will need to meet potential owners several times to get to know one another. This lets us see you’re compatible and gives you the chance to build a bond before making a commitment to give them a new home. By taking some time at the beginning to make sure everyone’s comfortable, an adoption is more likely to be successful.

We may also arrange a home visit with you, to see how your house will be set up and check that the garden (if you have one) is secure. This may not be necessary, though, especially if you’ve adopted from us before. Where you already have dogs, we may accept a reference from your vet as an alternative.

  6. 6

If we haven’t found the right match, we’ll continue the search together

If we haven’t found the right dog for you within three months, we’ll let you know your application is closed. We’ll invite you to apply again so we have up-to-date information about you, and we’ll keep looking.
