Are you right for Tonka?

Tonka is a 7-year-old French Bulldog who is looking for a quiet, experienced home where he can take things at his own pace. He will need to be the only dog in the home and would also prefer a home without cats or small furries. We don't have any history of Tonka around livestock. Tonka will need an adult-only home with minimal visitors, as he can find busy or unfamiliar environments a little worrying. Once he has built a bond with his people, he is an affectionate boy who enjoys spending time with those he knows and trusts. Tonka isn't used to being left on his own, so his new family will need to gradually build up the time he is left as he settles in. He is housetrained and travels well in the car. Tonka can pull a little on lead at times and isn't comfortable walking in busy towns, so he would be happiest with someone who can offer him quieter walks. Tonka is also quite the escape artist, so a secure garden will be essential to keep this cheeky boy safe!

Is Tonka right for you?

Lovely Tonka can be a little aloof when he first meets people, but once he has built a bond, you'll see his affectionate side come out. He absolutely loves a good bum scratch and will happily soak up attention from his favourite people. Tonka can be a little worried around other dogs, but with calm introductions, he would benefit from making some polite doggy friends who can help him build his confidence. He will need to continue having positive experiences at his own pace. When it comes to playtime, Tonka is a big fan! He adores his toys, particularly anything squeaky, although his soft toys don't tend to stay fluffy for very long! He also enjoys a good game of tug and loves having a zoom around when he gets the chance. Tonka knows a sit and is very enthusiastic when treats are involved. He's not particularly fussy and will happily work for his favourite snacks, with carrots and watermelon being firm favourites. His new family could have lots of fun teaching him some new tricks and helping him build his confidence through reward-based training. For walks, Tonka enjoys exploring woodland and countryside routes, as well as having a good run around in secure dog fields. Busy towns can be a little overwhelming for him, and he definitely isn't a fan of rainy weather! Give him some sunshine, though, and you'll often find Tonka making the most of it with a good old sunbathe. If you're looking for a cheeky, toy-loving companion who will reward your patience with affection, Tonka could be the boy for you.

How our rehoming process works

  1. 1

Create an account and fill out our application form

In our form you can tell us all about your home, your lifestyle and the kind of dogs you’re interested in. You won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can add favourites to give us an idea of the dogs you like. We’ll use this information to find a great match for you.

  2. 2

    Choose a rehoming centre

We’ll also ask you to select a rehoming centre. The team at this centre will look after your application and assess you against all suitable dogs in their care. This doesn’t have to be your nearest centre, but you will need to travel there within a few days once we’ve found...

  3. 3

    We’ll review your application

We’ll review your application against the dogs in our care at your chosen centre. If we think we have the right dog for you, we’ll be in touch as soon as possible. If we don’t hear back from you, we will close your application for now, and you can reapply when you’re ready.

We’ll keep your application open for three months and keep looking for a match

If we’ve found a dog who seems right for you, we’ll invite you to come and meet them at the rehoming centre.

Some of the dogs in our care will need to meet potential owners several times to get to know one another. This lets us see you’re compatible and gives you the chance to build a bond before making a commitment to give them a new home. By taking some time at the beginning to make sure everyone’s comfortable, an adoption is more likely to be successful.

We may also arrange a home visit with you, to see how your house will be set up and check that the garden (if you have one) is secure. This may not be necessary, though, especially if you’ve adopted from us before. Where you already have dogs, we may accept a reference from your vet as an alternative.

  6. 6

If we haven’t found the right match, we’ll continue the search together

If we haven’t found the right dog for you within three months, we’ll let you know your application is closed. We’ll invite you to apply again so we have up-to-date information about you, and we’ll keep looking.

We’ll support you to embark on a new life with your dog
