Billy is a handsome five-year-old Lab cross Collie looking for a loving home with adult adopters. Billy is currently thriving in a quiet foster home where he enjoys a peaceful lifestyle. His foster carer describes him perfectly, saying, "He is wonderfully affectionate, happy and content little companion who has been an absolute pleasure to have in the home!" Billy is looking to be the only dog in the home and will need a home without cats or small furries. With his foster carers he has been enjoying walks on Dartmoor and has been fine to pass by livestock on his lead. Billy has been instantly forming bonds with women, and he has been taking a little longer to open up to men. Once he has made a new friend he will go up to them for snuggles or take his toy up to them and ask them to play. Billy has a successful introduction plan for visitors to the home. He is seeking a quieter home without too many visitors. He is happy to be left alone for a few hours at a time, he will just nap. He is fully housetrained. Although car travel isn’t his favourite thing, he will happily get in the car and travel when needed. Potential adopters will need to visit the centre a couple of times to get to know Billy before taking him home.
Is Billy right for you?
Billy greets the people he knows with excitement and a waggy tail. He is incredibly affectionate and adores a fuss. Once he feels settled, there's nothing he loves more than curling up beside you on the sofa for a snuggle. Billy continues to successfully make new human friends. Recently his foster carer has been taking him to work for a few days a week where he made friends with everyone in the office. The best approach is simply to let Billy choose to come over when he is ready. His latest adventures include exploring Braunton Burrows, he loves Torridge Commons on his long-line jumping in and out of the river, and when it’s quiet, the beach so he can dip in the sea! Billy will bring you his toys so you can have a game of ball or tuggy together. He's motivated by food. While he'll happily accept any tasty treat, chicken is definitely his favourite! He enjoys learning with positive, reward-based training. He already knows "sit", "paw", "down", "leave", and "stay", and has great name response. Billy has made some doggy pals whilst out and about with his foster carer. He prefers calm dogs who are happy to coexist alongside him on a walk. Generally he isn’t bothered by other dogs and is happy to ignore them and carry on with his own adventure. Billy is looking for adopters who will continue to build his confidence and enjoy everything that makes him special. In return, they'll gain a loving, loyal companion who will reward their kindness with endless affection, happy tail wags, and plenty of snuggles.

Choose a rehoming centre
We’ll also ask you to select a rehoming centre. The team at this centre will look after your application and assess you against all suitable dogs in their care. This doesn’t have to be your nearest centre, but you will need to travel there within a few days once we’ve found...

We’ll review your application
We’ll review your application against the dogs in our care at your chosen centre. If we think we have the right dog for you, we’ll be in touch as soon as possible. If we don’t hear back from you, we will close your application for now, and you can reapply when you’re ready.

If we don’t have a dog for you right now, we’ll keep your application open for three months and keep you in mind for any new dogs that arrive. If within this time you see another dog you are interested in, you won't need to apply again but you can amend your application by...

Some of the dogs in our care will need to meet potential owners several times to get to know one another. This lets us see you’re compatible and gives you the chance to build a bond before making a commitment to give them a new home. By taking some time at the beginning to make sure everyone’s comfortable, an adoption is more likely to be successful.
We may also arrange a home visit with you, to see how your house will be set up and check that the garden (if you have one) is secure. This may not be necessary, though, especially if you’ve adopted from us before. Where you already have dogs, we may accept a reference from your vet as an alternative.

If we haven’t found the right match, we’ll continue the search together
If we haven’t found the right dog for you within three months, we’ll let you know your application is closed. We’ll invite you to apply again so we have up-to-date information about you, and we’ll keep looking.

We’ll support you to embark on a new life with your dog
When we’ve matched you with a dog, we’ll help you welcome them to your home. After adoption we’ll keep in touch to see how you and the dog are doing. If you need any advice or support, we’re just a phone call away.
