After more than a decade of tireless campaigning, we’re one huge step closer to ending the cruel puppy smuggling trade for good. We’ve led the charge, and now the Animal Welfare Bill has passed - a landmark victory in the fight against puppy smuggling.
This achievement is thanks to you. For over ten years, thousands of supporters have fought with us, taken action, and demanded change. Together, we’ve exposed cruelty, driven awareness, and pushed relentlessly for change.
Thanks to your incredible support, the Animal Welfare Bill has passed through Parliament and will become law. It will give the Government the power to:
- Stop puppies being imported under 6 months old
- Ban the import of heavily pregnant dogs
- Ban the importation and sale of dogs with cropped ears and docked tails
- Bring in tougher penalties for those caught illegally importing dogs.
Until now, it has been too easy for dogs and puppies to be transported into the UK in horrifying conditions. And there have been very few consequences for puppy smugglers, even if they do get caught. This law is a huge step forward in protecting innocent dogs.

We’re not stopping here. Passing the Animal Welfare Bill is a huge win, but now the real work begins. Our Public Affairs team will be monitoring every step to ensure the Government delivers on its promises to raise import ages, ban cruel mutilations, and enforce tougher penalties for puppy smugglers.
By holding decision-makers to account, we’ll make sure this legislation isn’t just words on paper, but real, lasting protection for dogs.
