You were there when dogs like Harry needed your kindness.

When Harry arrived at one of our rehoming centres, we could see right away that his mouth was in a terrible state. His gums were inflamed, the smell was overpowering, and many of his teeth were already missing or damaged. 

Harry received two careful surgeries to remove 22 teeth. He was given soft food and pain relief while his gums healed, and he showed incredible patience through every step of his recovery. 

But what we didn’t see straight away was something even more worrying. 

During his initial checks, we noticed that Harry was sensitive around his elbows. He initially resisted examination and showed signs of pain when his elbows were touched. An orthopaedic assessment confirmed what we suspected. Harry was suffering from suspected osteoarthritis, a common but painful condition in older dogs. 

With every walk and movement likely causing him pain, we knew it was crucial to act quickly. Thanks to your kind donations, Harry could start his treatment of long-term pain relief to help manage the inflammation and ease his discomfort. As part of his care plan, our dedicated staff also focused on helping Harry lose weight safely to relieve some of the pressure on his joints. 

Harry's arthritis may never fully go away, but thanks to kind supporters like you, he is now more comfortable, more mobile, and has the care he needs to enjoy life again. 

But Harry is not the only dog in pain. 

Sadly, we are seeing increasing numbers of dogs with medical needs come into our care.  More dogs like Harry are arriving at our doors because their owners simply can't afford the treatment they need. And at Dogs Trust, we’re feeling the impact of rising costs too.
