Dora the Staffy sits outdoors at a frosty Rehoming Centre

Hundreds of dogs will be abandoned this winter.

You can help create a happy place for dogs like Dora today.

Every year, as temperatures drop and nights grow longer, we see a sharp increase in the number of stray and abandoned dogs left to fend for themselves. With fewer people around to spot a dog in danger, the cold puts already vulnerable dogs at even greater risk.

This winter, we expect to take in nearly 900 stray and abandoned dogs who have nowhere to go. Your gift today could help create a happy place for dogs like Dora, who have lost everything.

Thankfully, we got to Dora in time. Our vets immediately tended to her broken tail and gave her pain relief, as well as medication for her skin. We had to feed her little and often to build her weight back up.

Dora was found as a stray after Christmas in the freezing cold. She was dangerously underweight, her tail was broken and her skin infected. We do not know how long she had been fending for herself, but every hour made her situation more dangerous.

The kindness our loyal supporters have shown, meant Dora no longer had to live on the streets alone. She was brought into our care just in time. Our veterinary team treated her tail and gave her pain relief, medication and the gentle care she needed to recover. She was fed little and often to help her build her strength back up, in a place where she could feel safe. Dora’s physical pain eased, and her personality slowly started to emerge. She wagged her tail again, her eyes brightened, and she finally began to trust.

But with hundreds more dogs facing abandonment this winter, we need your help now. Your gift could help more dogs like Dora begin their recovery in a safe, loving environment.

The weeks after Christmas are the most life-threatening time for stray and abandoned dogs. Our rehoming centres are busier than ever, and every space we have is a lifeline. But we can’t be there for every dog who needs us without your help. Please, will you give a gift today and help bring warmth, care and safety to dogs like Dora this winter?
