Give sick and injured dogs the care they need

Every day, more dogs are arriving in our care. They depend on your support to receive immediate and specialist treatment. Will you be there for dogs like Alfie?

More dogs than ever are arriving at our rehoming centres in desperate need of veterinary treatment. Dogs like Alfie arrive in our care every day. Some needing urgent treatment, others requiring ongoing care and daily medical management. No matter how complex their needs, they’re never turned away. And we never put down a healthy dog.

But we urgently need your support to keep this promise.

Veterinary costs have soared. In just one year, the average cost per dog has risen by more than 13%. Last year alone, we provided essential treatment to over 10,000 dogs and our veterinary costs exceeded £5.4 million. And while we do everything we can to stretch our resources, the number of dogs needing your loyal support continues to grow.

Many arrive because their owners can no longer afford their medical care. In fact, our 2024 National Dog Survey revealed that 56% of dog lovers are most concerned about vet bills, and 14% said they may have to cut back on treatment altogether.

With your donation, dogs like Alfie can access the life-saving treatment they desperately need.

Alfie was diagnosed with diabetes. To survive, he needed insulin injections twice a day. But he was terrified of needles which would be crucial to his survival. Administering those injections became a battle, and without them, he could have lost his sight - or worse. His recovery took time, dedication, and specialist behavioural and veterinary support – and your help. A missed injection or an overlooked symptom for dogs, like Alfie, can quickly escalate to an emergency.

Right now, there are still many more dogs in need of medical treatment.

Pingu

Pingu lives with epilepsy. Without regular medication and constant monitoring, his seizures could become life-threatening.

Maurice

Maurice has ongoing eye conditions and now suffers with dry eye and an eye ulcer. He needs daily eye ointments to stay comfortable and protect his sight.

Dolly

Dolly needed urgent surgery to prevent lasting damage to her leg due to a luxating patella. She’s still healing through hydrotherapy and vet visits.

Thank you.

Donations will go towards all areas of Dogs Trust's work and help care for dogs where the need is greatest.
