Black Friday challenge set to find family for homeless hound who has spent more than 130 days in foster care

Dogs Trust seek new home for longest serving foster care dog

Dogs Trust West Calder are hoping to find the perfect new family for one of its residents who has spent 137 days in foster care before he returns to kennels this Black Friday. 11- year-old Border Collie cross Troy, who was placed in the Home From Home Foster scheme when staff realised he didn’t like being left alone in his kennel, is the longest running resident to be in foster care from the West Calder Rehoming Centre.

Troy will be heading back to the rehoming centre in Bentyhead ahead of Black Friday and Dogs Trust Canine Carers are on a mission to help Troy find his forever home. Dogs with black coats are more likely to be overlooked by potential owners so the team are hoping Black Friday will prove lucky for Troy.

Susan Tonner, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust West Calder, said:

“If Troy hasn’t found a new home soon we will try and place him with another foster family so that he gets all the human companionship he needs. However, we would prefer to see him settled in a permanent home where he can develop a lifelong bond with his own family.

“Troy is looking for an adult only family who have previous experience of owning a dog. He is a very sensitive soul and can be wary of new people and surroundings at first; but with a bit of time and patience he will eventually grow more confident.

“Although Troy is an older gentleman he still lives life to the fullest, particularly going for walks and having a little sniff around.”

The team at Dogs Trust West Calder have set themselves the challenge of finding Troy a home before he returns to kennels and are urging potential owners who understand a dog is for life and have space in their heart and home, to come forward. In a bid to find him a suitable home, Dogs Trust have created a short video clip which showcases a day in the life of Troy, available here.
