Paw-some family day out

After last year’s first Fun Day at Barleylands Showground, Dogs Trust Basildon is preparing for an even bigger and better event which will promise something for every member of the family, with a few special guests on the agenda too! On Sunday 19th June the showground will be turned yellow and a whole host of activities for the two and four legged guests to enjoy all whilst helping raise much needed pounds for the homeless hounds cared for by the Wickford-based rehoming centre.

Joining the VIPs (very important pooches) from Dogs Trust Basildon will be stars from The Only Way Is Essex, Katie Wright and her Chihuahua Ronnie and Pete Wicks. Pete adopted French Bulldog Eric from Dogs Trust last November and he has since become inseparable from Pete’s other dog Eric. Together the trio will be joining the judging panel of some of the categories in the hotly contested Fun Dog Show.

Pete Wicks said:

“I’m looking forward to heading down to Dogs Trust Basildon’s Fun Day in June. My older dog Ernest, has taken Eric under his wing since we rehomed him from Dogs Trust and they’re a right double act now, I can just imagine them strutting their stuff around the place. No doubt Eric will try and take part in the Best Rescue category in the Dog Show! I’d urge everyone to come down on the day if you can, and to definitely visit Dogs Trust Basildon if you’re thinking of getting a dog - I can’t imagine my life without little Eric now!”

So whether wanting to turn your hand to winning a prize or two in the raffle or tombolas or if you think you have a canine chum with the prettiest eyes, or maybe a gentle giant that could win a prize in the dog show, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Entry is just £3 for adults, £2 for under 16s and under 5s and dogs go free.

Says Sam Davis, Dogs Trust Basildon Supporter Relations Officer:

“We’re so excited for this year’s Fun Day. Last year was such a huge success and we were flabbergasted by how many people turned out to show their support for the work of Dogs Trust. We’re hoping to make this year even bigger and the presence of Pete is already helping it shape up to be an unmissable event!”

Alongside the dog show which runs from 11.30am – 4pm there will be a parade of Dogs Trust dogs up for rehoming, a vintage car display, dog displays and agility activities. For more information please contact Sam Davis on 01268 535 050.
