The Hope Project

Dogs Trust Hope Project is a unique scheme which has been helping dogs whose owners are homeless or in housing crisis since 1994.

The Hope Project

The Hope Project

We know from experience that homeless people care deeply for their dogs, look after them well and very often see them as their only real companion.  At such a difficult time they are a source of comfort and a real responsibility. The dogs themselves are healthy, happy and sociable.

We help in the following ways;

  • Our Veterinary Entitlement Card Scheme provides free preventative and subsidised veterinary treatment through participating homelessness organisations and vets.
  • Advice for homeless dog owners on issues ranging from finding dog friendly temporary accommodation through to advice on welfare and veterinary issues.
  • Christmas Outreach Service for dog friendly Xmas/Winter Projects. Includes free Christmas doggie hampers and advice on accepting dogs in temporary shelters.
  • Advice and assistance for hostels, shelters and day centres on Welcoming Dogs.
  • Free information and advice for permanent housing providers and pet owners through PATHWAY – Pets and Housing Group.
