Canterbury Meet the Staff
Centre Manager - Adam came from a background in carpentry and furniture design before joining Dogs Trust in 2005. He is very passionate about animal welfare and started his career at our West London (Harefield) centre as a canine carer and progressed through the roles of CC2 Rehomer and Assistant Manager Admin before taking on the role of Canterbury Centre Manager in 2010. His role is to oversee the day to day running of the centre, and keeping abreast of company policy, procedures, public relations and customer care.
Assistant Manager Administration – Caroline came from a background in veterinary and dog welfare before joining Dogs Trust Canterbury as Assistant Manager Administration in 2008. Caroline’s role is to oversee the administrative aspects of the centre including dispensing of medicines, adoption procedures and general customer care.
Assistant Manager Operations – Allison joined Dogs Trust back in 1993 at our Newbury centre and has since worked in several roles within the charity. In 1999 she moved down to Canterbury to become Assistant Manger Operations. Her management role is to oversee the operational aspects of the centre including kennel management, veterinary routines and general canine care.
Receptionists – Kim and Tracey both joined us in 2010 with backgrounds in Office Management, Marketing and Accounting respectively. Both receptionists are responsible for customer care and front of house and they carry out all organisational and administrative tasks within the centre. They are the happy, friendly face of Dogs Trust Canterbury when you first visit the centre!
Training and Behavioural Advisor – Laura came from a background in sport and personal fitness before starting her Dogs Trust career in 2002 as a Canine Carer (Level 2) at our Leeds centre. She was then transferred to Glasgow and promoted to Training and Behavioural Advisor in 2009, before finally joining Canterbury in the same role later that year. Laura’s role is to oversee the assessment and training of dogs in our care, as well as those who have been rehomed, but may still need a helping hand.
Canine Carer Level 2 (CC2) Dog Training – Nikki came from a background in animal management and science, before joining Dogs Trust Canterbury as a Canine Carer in 2005 before being promoted to her current position as CC2 in 2007. Nikki’s role is to assist our Training and Behavioural Advisor with the assessment and training of the dogs in our care.
Canine Carer Level 2 (CC2) Rehoming - Nico was studying for his A-Levels when he joined us a volunteer in 2005 and then as a permanent member of staff in 2007. Nico was promoted to CC2 in 2010, and also runs our Twitter feed and is our resident photographer. This elevated role is to oversee the rehoming of the dogs in our centre with emphasis on customer care and building good relationships with all our visitors.
Canine Carers (Level 1) - Ruth, Becky, Ashleigh, Kelly and Harriet are our full time staff and Jane, Laura, Marion and David are our part time staff. All Canine Carers are responsible for the general day to day care of the dogs at our centre, carrying out home & vet visits, and are involved in the rehoming of the dogs in our care through customer liaison.
Maintenance Operatives – Dave came from a background in engineering and stone masonry, before joining Dogs Trust Canterbury as part-time Maintenance Operative in 2008. Simon came from a background in engineering and hygiene, before joining us as a volunteer in 2008 and then as our second part-time Maintenance Operative in 2009. Their role is to carry out any light construction, groundsmen duties and general repairs.
Supporter Relations Officer – Sam came from a background in Hospitality and Retail Management before joining Dogs Trust Canterbury as Assistant Manager Administration in 2009, and then moved over to her current role as Supporter Relations Officer in September 2010. Sam’s role includes handling local press and organising our annual events, including our Fun Day in the summer. She also promotes our Canine Care Card scheme and legacy liaison, and gives group talks on the charity.
