The Underdog Show

In Spring 2007 eight famous faces found themselves in the unlikeliest of TV double acts. They paired up with eight wonderful Dogs Trust canine companions to compete in The Underdog Show on BBC2.

Presenter Julian Clary, accompanied by his own loveable four legged friend Valerie, followed every step of the celebrities’ journey as they enrolled on a six week crash course in doggy discipline, aided by their own individual trainers.

Chump and Selina Scott

The show was won by Chump and Selina Scott, with Casper and Huey Morgan a close second and Cookie with Julia Sawalha third.

Meanwhile, over on CBBC ONE and CBBC TWO, eight children were crafting their skills in canine control on their own series, also fronted by Julian Clary.

In a similar format to the primetime version, the children doubled up with a rescue dog of their choice, before embarking on a learning programme designed to assess their abilities within an audience packed arena. The children escaped a public vote and were instead eliminated purely on the judges’ scores.

The winners were Brin and Kelly but all the dogs and children who took part did incredibly well.
