Don’t be spooked by the name – this furry fellow is a real charmer.
Casper is a nine month old puppy currently being cared for by Dogs Trust Newbury. The little chap hasn’t had the best start in life having come to the Rehoming Centre with deformed front legs that made it difficult for him to do all the things a puppy should. Thankfully staff took him to a specialist vet who has carried out corrective surgery and although he will need one further operation, he’s feeling better already.
Dogs Trust Veterinary Director Chris Laurence explains:
“It’s possible that a fall or an inadequate diet caused Casper’s bones to grow abnormally. It’s fortunate he’s so young because the operations will be significantly more effective than if he was older and his bones had stopped growing or he had developed arthritis as a result of the deformity”.
Cheeky Casper hasn’t been trained and likes to have fun chasing things so his new owner will need the patience to work with him. However they needn’t worry about veterinary fees for further operations on his legs as they will be covered under the Dogs Trust’s brilliant Part-foster Scheme. Under the scheme Dogs Trust undertakes to pay for the treatment of specific medical conditions present at the time of adoption with the proviso that the adopter pays the first £7.50 of each relevant veterinary bill.
Dogs Trust Newbury Rehoming Centre Manager, Maureen Iggleden, comments:
“Casper is very sweet but an experienced adult home would help calm his active and inquisitive nature. The staff here adore him but Casper really deserves a family to call his own and the Part-foster Scheme will hopefully give him a much better chance of finding one”.
Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, and cared for 16,000 dogs last year through a network of 17 rehoming centres. Dogs Trust has a non-destruction policy so the charity will care for Trio until the right home is found.
If you are interested in rehoming Casper or any of the other residents at Dogs Trust Newbury please call the Rehoming Centre directly on 01488 658391.
