Children uncover the truth behind responsible dog ownership
This week saw a group of children aged between 7 and 11 years old converge upon Dogs Trust Glasgow Rehoming Centre to carry out their own ‘Dog Detectives’ investigation into the work of the Rehoming Centre.
All of the children were from the local area and spent the afternoons of Monday 16 July, Tuesday 17 July and Wednesday 18 July learning about how to keep dogs happy and healthy; how to groom a dog; dog agility and exercise; what happens when a dog has a vet health check; whilst also having lots of fun with activity games, such as the ‘Scoop the Poop’ obstacle race!
Lorraine Hare (pictured, centre front row, with her dog Donny), Dogs Trust Glasgow Education Officer, said:
“We wanted to make responsible dog ownership fun for these children. Often children do not see past the cute and cuddly benefits of a pet, forgetting the commitment and responsibility. That’s why Dogs Trust are committed to educating the dog owners of tomorrow . Not only do children need to understand how wonderful our four-legged-friends are but that they need to think really hard before getting one. All the children had a great time and we hope they took away some valuable knowledge, as well as some fabulous memories of our Dogs Trust rescue dogs!”

Dogs Trust will be having a Kidz Zone at their Fun Day and Fun Dog show at Tollcross Park this Sunday (29 July) where any interested youngsters can come along and find out more from Lorraine about the work that the Charity does.
Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, caring for over 15,000 stray or abandoned dogs every year through its network of 17 Rehoming Centres across the UK. Dogs Trust is urging anyone interested in the work of Dogs Trust or in rehoming any of the 90 rescue dogs at Dogs Trust Glasgow to call the Rehoming Centre directly on 0141 773 5130.
