Dogs Trust Roden appeals for homes for abandoned deaf Collies Blanche and Lass.

Dogs Trust has a strict non-destruction policy and will never put a healthy dog to sleep. This means that dogs remain in the care of Dogs Trust until they find a loving home, unfortunately for some dogs this stay can be fairly long. Blanche and Lass are such dogs. They are healthy, lively, intelligent dogs who would make fantastic family pets, but were thoughtlessly dumped at a young age to fend for themselves, simply because Blanche and Lass are deaf. Countless visitors to the centre have stopped outside their kennel and admired the cute pooches, but all walk on by when they read of the dogs hearing difficulties.
Blanche is a seven month-old Collie who was found straying in Scotland and four month-old Lass is also a Collie and was found in Wales. Being abandoned is tragic for any dog, but for Blanche and Lass the experience must have been terrifying, as they could hear nothing. Staff at Dogs Trust consider it a miracle they survived.
Both dogs are very young and would respond well to training, particularly as Collies are extremely intelligent and get bored if they don’t have enough stimulation. Training using hand signals has already begun by Dogs Trust staff. They are great with other dogs, children and cats.
Louise Campbell, Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre Manager says:
“Blanche and Lass are lovely young dogs. Although they are deaf, they have no other health issues and given the right training, there is no reason why they won’t make fabulous pets. Unfortunately many visitors to the centre are overlooking Blanch and Lass because they are deaf, it is really sad and we hope by appealing for homes for the pair we can find them loving homes soon.”
Although experience with deaf dogs would be an advantage, time and dedication is far more important. If you think you could offer Blanche or Lass a home or would like to find out more about rehoming a rescue dog please call the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre Roden on 01952 770 225.
