LOUGHBOROUGH SHOWN TO BE A TOWN OF DOG LOVERS!

16 January 2012

Loughborough Town Centre taken over in run-up to new rehoming centre opening

It was all paws on deck at Loughborough Town Hall on Saturday 14th January as rescue dogs Hermione, Cracker, Bobby and Louie as well as Dogs Trust staff welcomed over 1,000 members of the public to the charity’s fun Information Day.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Loughborough came to show their support alongside character dogs and balloon makers as the charity held the event to tell locals about its brand new rehoming centre due to open in early summer 2012 in Wymeswold.

Dogs Trust Loughborough Manager, Nikki Smith (pictured centre), comments:

“Our Information Day was a huge success and we are overwhelmed by the support local people have shown the charity. We were able to update people on the building work, tell them about the charity’s work, highlight how people can get involved with us as well as tell them about future job opportunities.

If this is the response we get to an information day, we can’t wait to see how many people come along to the centre when it opens in early Summer. This is fantastic news for East Midlands dogs.”

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and the new rehoming centre will add to the network of 18 rehoming centres based across the country and Ireland. Offering space for around 100 dogs at any one time, the centre hopes to help 1,000 dogs a year find new homes.

Unfortunately the number of stray and abandoned dogs is at an 11 year high and the past year saw over 1,000 dogs put to sleep by local authorities in the region, so there is a clear need for the centre.

There will be over 38 new roles at the Rehoming Centre – from canine carers, to Training and Behavioural Advisers, Receptionists and Maintenance staff. Anyone interested in applying for job opportunities should visit the charity’s website www.dogstrust.org.uk/jobs from 16th January. Interviews will be taking place in late February 2012.
