Costs of dog ownership
On top of the price of buying or adopting a dog, it has been estimated that a pet dog could cost you around £8000+ over its lifetime, or around £1000 per year of its life. Here’s what you could be paying out for:
• Weekly food bill and treats
• Bedding, toys, bowls, brushes and other equipment
• Indoor kennel, travel harness or dog guard for car travel
• Identification disc, collar, lead and microchip
• Vet’s bills for vaccination, sickness and accidents, neutering and routine healthcare
• Insurance cover and excess to be paid for each claim
• Boarding kennel fees, pet sitter or dog walker
• Professional grooming fees
• Training classes, behaviour consultations
• Garden fence maintenance and possible damage to the house and possessions from destructive behaviour or chewing.
