Local Authority Event Ideas

Below are a few ideas for events you can hold to promote this years National Poop Scoop Week. If you have any of your own please let us know

One of the best ways to raise awareness is by organising photo calls and stunts which will attract the local media.

  • Mascots – Try having a Poop Scoop Week Mascot such as a person dressed as a dog, who can visit schools, parks, and other target areas. This also provides a good photo opportunity for the local press.
  • Sticking flags or cones near every dog poo in a given area is also great to demonstrating the extent of the problem; this provides a great photo call for the papers, particular if the area is a playing field, where children often play, or a local park.
  • Involve a local school by asking children to design a logo to encourage responsible dog ownership or illustrate the ‘Grab it, Bag it, Bin it’ rule. This can then make a good hook for local media, and can be used on promotional material including websites etc
  • Sponsored Dog Walks are a fantastic way to get the local community involved and this encourages responsible owners to help in the fight against dog fouling. It is also an opportunity to give away free poo bags.
  • Wrap up your kids – get volunteer kids from the local school to wrap themselves in toilet roll for a photo call to the local media.
  • Set up a Poop Scoop Week stand in a busy park or area used by dog walkers and hand out literature, and poo bags. This is a good way for local dog wardens to talk to members of the public and for the public to report target areas or individuals known to be offenders.
