This year’s National Poop Scoop Week will run from 23rd - 29th June and local authorities up and down the country will be running campaigns to urge dog-owners everywhere to clean up after their pooches to make 2008 the cleanest summer ever.
Though there are over 6million dogs in the UK, it is just a small minority of owners who let the rest down and gives dogs a bad name. We are urging all dog owners to get behind the campaign and help the country’s canine citizens.
Dog fouling costs councils 22 million a year to clean, and remains the countries most complained about issue according to local authorities and MP’s. ( Keep Britain Tidy Statistics)
Clarissa Baldwin, Chief Executive, Dogs TrustAt Dogs Trust we believe every dog owner has a responsibility to pick up after their dog. It’s such a shame that a small number of owners put dogs in a bad light, as there are millions of responsible owners and well-behaved dogs out there! Through National Poop Scoop Week 2008 we aim to raise awareness of this issue and encourage the minority of irresponsible dog owners to do their duty, making public spaces cleaner and more pleasant for everyone.

The campaign, now in its ninth year, promotes responsible dog ownership and the message that it is every dog owner’s duty to clean up after their dog. We highlight the simple GRAB IT, BAG IT AND BIN IT plan to show how easy it is for dog owners to scoop that poop.
In 2008 we are urging Local Authorities across the UK to run their own publicity and awareness-raising events.
We will provide lots of information and support for you, including nationwide publicity. We’ll also be listing all events on this site so please tell us what you are doing and then anyone who visits can find out what is going on in your local area.

Mascots – Poop Scoop Week mascots can visit schools, parks and target areas
Stunts – flag all the dog mess in an area to demonstrate the extend of the problem
Events – such as dog walks are a good way to unite the public
