Cost and Itinerary

When is it taking place and how much will it cost?

There are 4 treks taking place in 2009...

  • 31st January - 6th February
  • 7th February - 13th February
  • 21st March - 27th March
  • 28th March - 3rd April

To take part in a trek we need you to pay a non–refundable deposit of £300 to secure your place and then raise a further £3000 (£2300 to pay for the trek and £1000 sponsorship towards the work of Dogs Trust). We appreciate that this is a lot of money which is why we have a dedicated fundraising team here at Dogs Trust consisting of Laura, Tristan and Matt, who are all here to give you plenty of ideas and advice to make your fundraising a huge success.

Day 1: Depart London for colder climes

Leave Heathrow and fly to the capital of Norway, Oslo, where you will stay overnight.

Day 2: Onto Alta

This morning you will fly into Alta, high in the north of Norway. You will be met at the airport by a member of the Voyage team and taken to the lodge at Gargia Fjellstue where you will receive a full expedition brief, and all the main items of equipment you will need. The evening is then yours to enjoy, perhaps watching the Northern Lights while sitting in an outdoors hot tub.

Day 3: The mountain ranges of Beskades

From the lodge we will take you to the start of your dog sledding adventure. Today, we will head over the fastastic mountain range of Beskades and cover over 30km of frozen landscape to Suolovuobme.

Day 4: On to Masi

This morning you leave Suolovuobme and head for Masi. Covering almost 30km, you will travel across the most incredible landscape, finally arriving at Masi - a lodge perched on the edge a frozen lake. This evening you will have to break through the ice to get the water you will need for your dogs.

Day 5: Through reindeer country

Today, we travel from Masi to Nedre Mollisjok covering about 35km. This day is through reindeer country where extra care has to be taken to prevent the dogs chasing after these amazing, hardy creatures. An incredible sight to witness!

Day 6: Across one of the largest frozen lakes in the Arctic

Between Nedre Mollisjok and Jotka (approximately 35km) you will witness some of the starkest and most stunning landscapes you will see in this land. 10km of today's route will be over one of the largest frozen lakes in the Arctic.

Day 7: Through the forests into the lowlands

Today we will travel from Jotka to Detsika, about 30km. This final day of sledding will put your newfound sledding skills to the test as we descend through the magical forests to the end of our route. Once you have been collected at Detsika you will step into Norway's Ice Hotel for a celebratory drink in the Ice Bar! After returning to the lodge at Gargia and relaxing in an outdoor hot tub we will celebrate our dog sledding success with a gala dinner, followed by a visit to the bar!

Day 8: Head home

This morning (flight time dependant) you are free to enjoy your surroundings anyway you like, on snow mobiles, cross-country skiing or just relax at the Ice Hotel, the choice is yours. You depart Alta at lunchtime, and fly via Oslo to the UK, arriving home early that evening in time to celebrate your success and share the tales of your Arctic adventure with family and friends.
