What is the best way to introduce your dog to people she may not be familiar with, such as visitors to your home?
Firstly, the most important thing for any pet is to try to maintain their routine. So walk her and feed her at the usual time and in the usual way.
When visiting guests arrive make sure your dog is settled in her bed away from all the fuss. Once your guests are settled in, let her into the room to investigate in her own time. It’s far better to let her approach your guests but if she’s unwilling to interact with them don’t force her. If she seems comfortable your guests could give her some treats; they should start by throwing them on the floor near to her, encouraging her to come closer until she takes them from their hands. Once your guests have been in the house for a day or so they should have established a relationship with her and they can start to do other things like playing ball or taking her for a walk.
Please remember that young children are unlikely to understand all this so it important to keep them under close supervision.
