Freedom Project: Freedom Project: Helping families with pets flee domestic violence

The Dogs Trust Freedom Project is a dog fostering service for families fleeing domestic violence in Greater London, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire. We can also foster cats in Greater London and Hertfordshire in partnership with Cats Protection.

Families fleeing domestic violence are usually unable to take their pets with them into a refuge and in many cases they are reluctant to leave their home until they know there is somewhere safe for their pets. This is where Dogs Trust steps in. We place their pets with volunteer foster carers who look after them until their owners are in a position to take them back.

Dogs Trust is also part of the Links Group, a network of pet fostering services for families fleeing domestic violence in England and Wales. To find out more about the services we offer or for details of your nearest pet fostering group, please visit the Dogs Trust Freedom Project website

If you are fleeing domestic violence and have not already obtained advice, please call the 24 hour National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247.
