Animal Ambulance

Dogs Trust has three dedicated Animal Ambulances that travel the UK collecting dogs from various sources and delivering them to each of our 17 Rehoming Centres.

The dogs come from stray dog pounds, other rescue organisations or in some cases individual rescue operations. Each ambulance is fitted with custom transit cages and can carry up to 18 dogs at a time (though this depends on the size and type of dog). The vehicles are fully compliant with and operated within animal transport regulations.

Although we do not usually use these vehicles to transport sick animals, the drivers are all trained and experienced in dog welfare so they can ensure their passengers arrive at their new home fit and well.

Each of our Rehoming Centres also has its own small ambulance which is used to collect dogs from the local area for rehoming or to transport sick dogs to and from their veterinary care providers.
